The Filmmuseum Potsdam is an institute of the Babelsberg KONRAD WOLF Film University. Since its foundation in 1981, the museum with exhibitions and a programme cinema has resided in the baroque Marstall in the historic centre of Potsdam. It can be visited daily except Mondays. (2020/2021: Please note the temporary closure according to the ordinance for the containment of COVID-19 in the state of Brandenburg).
The permanent exhibition "Dream Factory 100 Years of Film in Babelsberg" is dedicated to the history of the film studio and largest European media centre in Potsdam-Babelsberg. Special exhibitions broaden the view into a wide variety of media topics.
The Filmmuseum Potsdam's cinema invites visitors to film festivals, curated film series with international guests or silent film screenings with live accompaniment on the Welte cinema organ.
The Filmmuseum Potsdam's collections focus on films made at the Babelsberg film studios since 1911 and the artists who worked on them, as well as film and cinema technology used in Germany. Much space is given to materials and objects on the history of cinema and film in the GDR.
